Twitter TV

The New York Times recently reported that Twitter would soon be launching an official TV show. Twitter has today responded to these reports, stating that a Twitter show is firmly in the pipeline. Twitters commander in chief Biz Stone has confirmed that the company has signed a contract with production company Reveille and Brillstein to put the wheels in motion on a TV project. However, Stone was quick to emphasise that this is not an official Twitter TV show. The agreement takes the form of a non-exclusive contract and as such, there are a number of companies working on productions based around the micro-blogging phenomenon.

In a nutshell, this effectively means that Twitter are prepared to allow people to create TV around its service, but are unprepared to officially endorse any of the shows. This is a clever strategy and in keeping with the wider Twitter philosophy, in that any application developers building around the Twitter technology are in fact providing a fantastic marketing vehicle for Biz Stone and his cohorts. Conversely, if any of these ventures fail in a catastrophic fashion, it won’t reflect badly on Twitter.
